Points and Scoring

- Scoring -

Since Battle of the Sexes CTF is a Capture the Flag based mod, personal points do not matter to the well-balance of the team. Your teams points are located on the bottom right hand side of your HUD, color coded. There are multiple ways to score for your team. The most common way is to capture the enemies flag. To do this, you need to grab the enemies flag (usually deep inside their base), and take it to your capture pad. Capture pads are usually located inside your base. They look like small circular pads with a blue or red glow, depending on the team they are for. To capture, simply walk over the pad while holding the flag. In some maps, there may be more than 1 capture pad per team, each which give more or less points, depending on the difficulty to reach them. Some maps have only 1 capture pad, usually located in the center of the map. This capture pad will flash from red to blue every few seconds. You can only capture on the pad when it is glowing the color of your team. Each capture will reward your team with 2 points to the team score, and 1 point to your personal score.

Another way to score team points is to kill the enemies Captain. Since there can only be 1 Captain per team, one of the responsibilities he has is to stay alive. Each time the Captain is killed, the other team gets 1 team point, and the killer gets 1 personal point. If the Captain kills himself with his weapons, the other team will also be rewarded with a team point. If the Captain falls into a void, lava, or slime, no point is rewarded. The Captain can also use the /kill command to kill himself, though it will give a 10 second delay to avoid using this method to escape tight situations.

A player will also score 1 personal point for grabbing the enemy flag, capturing the enemy flag, returning the enemy flag, killing an enemy near his flag (defending) or killing the enemy teams Captain. Personal points are seen by holding down the TAB button.

- The Promoting Process

If your team has a Captain, any team scoring will result in a promotion point as well. A flag capture will give 2 promotion points, a Captain kill will give 1. These promotion points are stored on a Promotion Key that the Captain can carry around with him. The Promotion Key looks like a skull, glowing the color of the team. With each promo point earned, the Captain can promote his teammates one by one to be stronger and have more abilities. 1 promotion point can level 1 person on his team to level 1. Once the player is level 1, he can be upgraded to level 2. 2 more promotion points are needed to promote the same player to level 2. Therefore, it takes 3 total promotion points to promote 1 player to level 2. The maximum level each player can acquire is level 4. On each level gained, that player gets a new or upgraded ability for his class. Promoting each player on your team to level 4 is a hard earned task, and needless to say, does not happen very often. Promotion points are needed to be distributed wisely.

If the Captain is killed, he drops the key where he died. If an enemy Infiltrator "steals" the key, all promotion points kept on the key are lost, the Infiltrators team gets 1 promotion point and the Infiltrator automatically gains 1 level. An Infiltrator "steals" the key by running over it. If anyone else on the enemies team runs over the key, it is "destroyed". This causes the all promo points on the key to be lost, his team gets 1 promo point, he gains 1 level, and everyone on the other team loses 1 promotion level. Once the key is destroyed of stolen, it appears back on the Captain. Keeping the Captains key safe is a heavy priority in BSCTF. Each map has at least 1 Captain's room where only he can open the door. He can hide his key there, hide himself there, and use the safety of the room when its time to promote his team. If a Captains key falls into the void, it is there forever.

At level 0, your player starts with his basic abilities and very little health/armor/ammo. You have to pick up a pack and health bubble to fill them. When promoted to level 1, you automatically respawn with full health and armor, saving you the time of picking up armor and health before venturing out. This is uniform for all classes.

- The Teching Process -

A process unique to Q3 BSCTF, involves the class unique to Q3 BSCTF, the Scientist. All the Scientist has to do is kill someone and he is rewarded with a tech point. His tech points are kept on a "tech key" that he carries with him. The tech key looks like a "Klesk" head, glowing the color of the team. With each tech point on the key, the Scientist can upgrade a class on his team to a certain attribute. He can upgrade each class in these ways:

  • WEAPON DAMAGE

  • WEAPON FIRE RATE

  • ADVANCED ARMOR

  • GENETIC ENHANCEMENT - HEALTH

  • GENETIC ENHANCEMENT - SPEED

  • GENETIC ENHANCEMENT - JUMP

  • GENETIC ENHANCEMENT - STRENGTH

Unlike the Captain, the Scientist cannot start the upgrading process until he has been promoted to level 1. Once level 1, the Scientist can upgrade 1 class with 1 upgrade to level 1. Example: The Scientist is level 2 and has 4 tech points. He can upgrade Snipers with "weapon fire rate" to level 1, then to level 2. That will use 3 points, and every sniper on his team will get an increase in fire rate. Then he can use the remaining points to upgrade another class with a class1 upgrade, or save it to upgrade Snipers in fire rate to level 3, after he gets 2 more tech points. If the Scientist is killed, the tech key is dropped where the he dies. If an Infiltrator runs over the key, its "stolen", and all the tech points left on the key are lost. This also demotes the Scientist one level. If the key is "destroyed" by anyone on the opposite team, all the tech points left on the key are lost, the Scientist loses one level, and everyone on the team loses 1 tech in each upgrade they have. The key is destroyed by running over it also. Once the tech key is stolen or destroyed, its returned to the Scientist. Its important to keep the tech key hidden, as tech upgrades really enhance a team. Every map has at least 1 Scientist room where only he can open the door. This makes teching the team safer and gives the Scientist a place to hide the key while he is off fighting.

As of Version 1.1, tech upgrades are shared by the members of that class. Example: Team A has one soldier, and the scientist has upgraded soldier weapon damage to tech level 2. The soldier will see the full benefit of the level 2 tech. Team B has two soldiers, and the scientist has upgraded soldier weapon damage to tech level 2, HOWEVER, since the team has two soldiers, they will split the increase in damage equally. These changes are evaluated each time you respawn, so you must die to see the changes related to the number of people in the class and/or the tech level changing.

- The Striping Process -

Once a team is promoted to high levels, it can be difficult for the losing team to catch up. To balance this, if you are killed by an enemy that is 2 levels or more below you, you are "striped" of one level, and the enemy that kills you gains one level. This can be a good thing for the losing team, and a very bad thing for the winning team. Unlike tech points, the promotion points needed to repromote that player do not come easy.

- The Demoting Process -

For whatever reason, the Captain has the ability to "demote" a player. This will make the certain player lose 1 promotion level, and will return the correct amount of points back to the promotion key to use on someone else.
